This is more of a community celebration.  We will come together to put the waterproof "skin" on this hand-made kayak.  Over home-made food, we will learn not only how to sew the cover on, but why the Greenland kayak is such a powerful, light and durable craft.  S  James Hsiang has been building canoes and kayaks since the early 1970s, focusing on traditional techniques that are pegged and lashed without use of screws or nails.  After the kayak is skinned it will be donated to Tear Cap Workshops.   Students can opt for the morning or afternoon class at $15, or for both classes for $25.  Cost includes hand-outs with information and methods.
